Keeping the bed bugs from biting has been a challenge at one Four Corners motel. A rash of customer complaints now has other hotels in the area taking action to keep the nighttime nibblers at bay.
A Days Inn near downtown Farmington became the spotlight of the problem a month ago when more than ten people complained of bites.

PORTLAND, Maine — A Portland detoxification shelter closed Sunday night because of bed bugs.
The Milestone Foundation at 65 India St. will have an exterminator visit Tuesday and has plans to reopen Tuesday night, said Kevin House, a shelter attendant.Other local shelters are helping to take in anyone who had planned to stay at the Milestone Foundation.The Milestone Foundation is a 38-bed facility and is a nonprofit organization. The shelter closed Sunday at 8 p.m.The extermination costs will be covered by the nonprofit’s operating budget.

What it’s called: The bed bug, or in Latin, Cimex lectularius.
What it looks like: A small wingless oval-shaped insect, no more than half a centimetre long, that looks like something out of the Cretaceous period. Its light tan to deep brown flat body is formed by six distinct horizontal plates that give it the appearance of armour, while its head is vaguely reminiscent of a triceratops.

KCTV5 News wrote an article about Jackie Trotter and her two daughters who were staying at the Value Place Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. After Trotter discovered bed bugs to immediately reported the incident to the front desk assuming she was going to get a different room. Instead following protocol the hotel kicked Trotter and her daughters out. Trotter, who had paid for her room for two weeks in advance, had no money for another hotel so the family had to stay with friends instead.

An itchy invasion is taking over several fire stations in Cincinnati as fire crews battle it out with bed bugs, local station WLWT reported.
Firefighter union leaders met with city council members to discuss the issue.
Firefighters said that every time they make a run, they brush up against a couch or a bed and sometimes pick up an unwanted hitchhiker….
